How to turn a photo into a pencil sketch
1.Choose a tonal reference
Upload a well-lit portrait, object, or landscape with visible light and dark areas. A blurred photo cannot supply missing detail.
2.Balance lines and shading
Choose Pencil, Charcoal, Pastel, or Crosshatch. Start with HB Graphite, then adjust Intensity and Shading. Apply the effect after each change to compare the result.
3.Export the drawing study
Check that eyes and shadows remain distinct, then download the JPEG. Use the result as a tonal reference or shareable effect.

How can I make a pencil sketch from a photo for free?
Upload a photo, select Pencil, tune Intensity and Shading, and apply the effect. Download the JPEG without an account or watermark. Processing stays in your browser unless you choose an optional AI action.
Why is my sketch too dark?
Reduce Intensity or Shading, and try 2H Hard instead of 6B Soft or Charcoal. Dark source photos and dense backgrounds can still lose detail; start from a clearer photo if the face remains muddy.
Will this draw new details or repair a blurred face?
No. This is a local photo effect that changes tone and edges, not an AI redraw. It does not reconstruct missing facial detail or replace the background.
What size and format is the sketch download?
The download is a JPEG at the processed image size, with the longest edge capped at 2200 pixels. A smaller source stays smaller; printing it larger does not create extra detail.
