How to Make a Coloring Page from a Photo
Prepare a photo, choose readable outline settings, and print a coloring page. Learn why busy backgrounds and fixed style presets affect the result.
To turn a photo into a coloring page, start with one clear subject, simplify the edges, and check a test print. Photo to Coloring Page performs the conversion locally in your browser and downloads a PNG without signup.
Choose a photo with space to color
A toy, pet, flower, or face against a plain background is a useful starting point. Leaves, grass, patterned clothes, and dark shadows can become many small outlines. Crop unnecessary background before uploading the photo.
The tool detects edges throughout the image. It does not automatically remove the background, close every outline, or invent missing facial features.
Pick a style and apply it
- Upload a JPG, PNG, or WebP.
- Try Simple or Kids for a simpler starting point. Use Classic when you want to control detail manually.
- Open Advanced settings and set Line thickness between 1 and 5 px. Thicker lines can help a faint print, but may also fill tiny spaces.
- Click Make my coloring page and compare the preview with the source. Changes need to be applied again before you evaluate them.
Classic and Bold show a Detail level slider under Advanced settings. Kids, Simple, and Detailed use fixed detail settings, so that slider is hidden for those styles.
Fix a cluttered or faint result
If the page is too busy, use a tighter crop, a plainer background, or a simpler style. If important edges disappear, try Classic with more detail. The line art tool exposes an edge-threshold control when you need more direct control.
Check that the eyes, mouth, and silhouette are still readable. A different source photo can be more effective than extreme settings.
Print one page before making a set
The download is one PNG, capped at 2200 pixels on the longest edge. Choose the paper size and fit in your print app. Check line strength, margins, and small coloring areas on one sheet before printing copies.
This tool does not assemble a coloring-book PDF. For several pages, place the PNGs in a document or print them separately. Use photos you have permission to reproduce.
