Try a closer source crop and smaller blocks first. Keep enough colors to distinguish skin, hair, eyes, and background before simplifying the palette again.
A close pet portrait, a flower, or a person against a quiet background makes a forgiving first project. Group photographs are harder because each face occupies fewer blocks. Before upload, remove unnecessary space around your subject in a separate image editor if that helps the composition.
Start by checking recognition rather than chasing the most dramatic effect. Reduce block size when the shape breaks apart, or reduce colors when shading looks too photographic. Once the picture reads well, compare Classic and Rounded styles to see whether square or softer cell edges suit the subject.
