A normal collage downloads as a JPG about 1080 pixels wide. Selecting a frame or an optional attribution tag changes the exported file to PNG.
Four photographs are enough to show a short story without shrinking each picture into a thumbnail. Try an overview, a close-up, a person, and a final detail. Keep one clear focal point in each cell. When a subject is too small, editing or replacing that image is usually more effective than adding a heavier frame around the entire collage.
