Choose an image where the subject is visually separate from the background.

It may be smaller than a conversion block or too similar in color to its background. Try smaller blocks and a clearer source crop.
A quieter background often helps. Edit it before uploading if needed; this tool converts the whole image and does not isolate the subject automatically.
A recognizable silhouette carries much of a small graphic. Look for gaps between legs, a handle on a mug, or the tip of an ear. If those features collapse into their surroundings, reduce block size or prepare a closer crop rather than adding more decorative effects.
Once the outline reads clearly, compare a few palette sizes to find which interior shadows actually help. Flat surfaces often need fewer colors than fur or fabric. This converter samples and reduces the image automatically; it does not make the deliberate contour corrections that a pixel artist might choose by hand.
The download is a flat PNG. Photos are processed at up to 2200 pixels on the longest edge, then rounded down to complete blocks. Pixel size controls each block, not a target canvas such as 32×32. Keep your original for later edits.
