Grid Measure — Calculate Nominal Cell Spacing editor

Blank grid preview

Blank Letter grid, 12 rows x 8 columns

How do I use this tool?

  1. 1.Select the paper dimensions

The preset uses the tool’s 216×279 mm Letter reference. Choose another paper format if it matches your task better.

  2. 2.Adjust counts and compare

Use eight columns and twelve rows initially. Inspect the displayed cell width and height as you change either count.

  3. 3.Verify the printed scale

Download the PNG and print it at your intended size. Check several intervals with a ruler before relying on the physical spacing.

Before I download

Why do the displayed width and height differ?

They are calculated independently from paper dimensions and counts. Rectangular cells are expected whenever those two calculations produce different values.

Does the download have a guaranteed DPI?

No fixed print DPI is promised. The PNG is 2400 pixels wide, and physical spacing depends on how that image is sized for printing.

Understand the simple measurement calculation

At the initial settings, 216 mm divided by eight columns gives a nominal 27 mm cell width. Dividing 279 mm by twelve rows gives a nominal 23.25 mm height, so the cells are rectangular.

These values describe the selected canvas at its listed paper size. They do not measure your monitor, the browser’s displayed preview, or objects inside a photograph.

A calculated grid still needs print calibration

A printer or document application may scale the exported image to fit within margins. That changes the physical spacing even though the file still contains the same row and column counts.

If a measurement task depends on exact intervals, measure several neighboring cells after printing and adjust the print size accordingly. This tool is a visual planning aid, not a calibrated measuring instrument or technical drawing exporter.
