Corner-to-corner diagonals can help compare a composition’s overall direction against the frame. The underlying rectangular divisions provide smaller reference positions within that same canvas.
This does not mean every diagonal subject must align with a guide. Use the structure to inspect a design choice, then judge whether it helps the actual subject and intended composition.
Special guide types are composition aids and do not all represent the row and column values as simple rectangular divisions. Custom is the appropriate mode when you need predictable counts or coordinate labels.
The designer changes the grid geometry and appearance as a whole. It does not let you drag individual guides, create unequal columns, or export editable vectors. Save the original source so you can compare another guide later.
